What is sciatica?

The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the human body. This nerve runs from the spinal cord to the buttocks, hip, and down the back of each leg. Pain that runs along the path of this nerve is known as sciatica. Sciatica usually occurs when the nerve is compressed or irritated by a herniated disc.

Clinical treatment of sciatica requires spinal correction before any other procedure can be performed. KKT Spine Center treatment is essential to accurately and effectively reposition the spine.

Signs to watch out for

  • Pain that radiates from the lower back through the buttocks, back of the thigh and calf muscle
  • Muscle numbness or weakness along the path of the nerve in the leg or foot In some cases you may have pain in one part of the leg and numbness in the other
  • Tingling or numbness, often in your toes or part of your foot
  • Atrophy of the leg or thigh muscles
  • In extreme cases, loss of bowel or bladder control
  • Tips for treating sciatica

  • Sleep on a comfortable, firm bed, on your side or on your back with your knees bent and a pillow under or between your knees. You will find that sleeping on one side is more comfortable than the other. Try to stay asleep on the side where you feel most comfortable
  • Adjust the height of the chair so that your feet are straight on the floor and your knees are slightly higher than your hips
  • Keep your feet straight on the floor and don't cross your legs when sitting
  • Sit on fixed-back chairs and sit straight on the back of the chair
